If you are 18 years old or over, ordinarily resident in Hong Kong and are a British national (overseas), you may apply for a British national (overseas) visa (also known as a BN(O) visa). A BN(O) visa allows you to live, work and study in the UK without restriction. A BN(O) visa leads to a grant of leave for up to 5 years and it is possible to apply for this visa from inside or outside of the UK.
Your partner and children may apply to accompany or join you in the UK as dependants on your BN(O) visa. Parents, grandparents, siblings and children over the age of 18 may also be eligible in certain circumstances to apply to join you as your dependants. Generally, dependants may work and study in the UK.
If you are already in the UK, you may switch into the BN(O) visa route from most other UK immigration routes.
The BN(O) visa route does leads to settlement / Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) once you have spent 5 continuous years residing in the UK.
We can advise you of the requirements for a BN(O) visa and assist you in preparing the visa application.
